The biggest headache when pulling old glow plugs on high-mileage 4JB1 heads is tip swelling. When poor injector spray patterns wash unburnt diesel over the glowing probe tip, carbon cakes around the heating sheath. If you yank on a carbon-locked plug with too much force, the tip snaps right off inside the pre-chamber passage. Before backing them out, we always soak the threads in penetrating solvent and work the hex flats back and forth gradually to break the carbon collar loose.

These 135mm units feature an internal regulating coil behind the primary heating element. As current rushes in from the relay, resistance climbs rapidly to choke off runaway current once the tip hits glowing cherry red. This prevents element burn-through during extended key-on periods or cold-start after-glow cycles.

Always verify length before screwing replacements in. Putting an incorrect 141mm plug into a head drilled for 135mm will jam the heater probe too deep into the combustion vortex, creating turbulence issues and risking contact with fuel spray streams.
